Picnic Area
Picnic Area
This is really not your ordinary beach where you just find some tables and benches to sit and eat on. Short Beach Park takes your “picnic at the beach” theme a notch higher by providing a more sophisticated eating area for you and your family.
There are three main picnic pavilions available for use at Short Beach Park. The largest can hold up to a hundred people. The other two are slightly smaller, but all have large picnic tables and grills. Prices are different for residents and non-residents, and depend on the time of the week, the number of people included in the party and what kind of gathering you are having. Rates are higher for business conferences and the like. For non-residents, weekday rates are from 130 to 400 dollars and weekend rates are at 225 to 485 dollars.
To use any of the picnic pavilions, you have to make a reservation beginning March 3 through the Recreation Department, and payment of fees is required as you reserve. There is also a “damage bond” amount that you can get back if you leave the picnic area clean after using it. The picnic areas also have bathrooms for your use.
As for parking, non-residents will be charged 5 dollars per vehicle on weekdays, and ten dollars per vehicle on weekends. Vehicles with beach stickers are free of charge.
